Becoming a Local is a collection of stories about this beautiful, quirky spot on the map, with full-color watercolor paintings illustrating every page.

Emma Skurnick was born in New York, went to school in California, and ended up – somehow – making art and teaching others to trust their creativity in the heart of North Carolina. Her roots are fully, deeply planted here.
