Be sure to check the Huckleberry Trail Farm website or Facebook page for more information about what's happening on each of these fun-filled weekends! Huckleberry Trail Farm will be hosting it OPEN FIELD TRIP DAY to celebrate the last day of the season! For one day only, from 9 am to 3 pm, Huck is offering our special field trip admission for everyone: $10.00. You will have full access to the farm which includes the corn maze, the pumpkin patch, a farmyard full of old timey fun and games, cotton picking, and more. (Sorry, no hayride on this day). We also have a picnic area where you can eat your lunch in the shade of our trees. Cool drinks and snacks will be available for sale. Special activities on Educational Day include: BECKY AND TOM’S SCAVENGER HUNT The kids will not only have a lot of fun finding things on the farm, but they will learn about farm stuff, too. All groups who complete the hunt get a special prize.

Intermediate Mead Making Class at Starrlight Mead
In this intermediate class, we’ll talk about various additives and when to use or not use them. You will learn about various methods to oak meads and the difference between French and American oak and sample meads aged with chips from each of these different types. You will learn about different acids and when acid additions may be necessary. Class includes mead tasting with various oak, tannin, and additives. $50 single, $75 two people Class takes place on Nov 02 from 10 am - 1 pm at the meadery in Pittsboro. All class participants MUST be over 21! No exceptions. Must sign up by Oct 30. IMPORTANT: This is an intermediate class and attendees must have a basic understanding of home mead making processes, equipment, and terms and have made a few home mead batches. Although we love Joe’s Ancient Orange, it does NOT qualify as mead making experience!

Megan Goodwin, PhD, is co-director and co-founder of the Bardo Institute for Religion and Public Policy, and media and technology consultant for the Crossroads Project. She is the author of Abusing Religion: Literary Persecution, Sex Scandals, and American Minority Religions. Her research focuses on American religions, race, sexuality, and politics. Goodwin co-hosts Keeping It 101: A Killjoy’s Introduction to Religion Podcast with Dr. Ilyse Morgenstein Fuerst. Her next project is tentatively entitled Cults Incorporated: The Business of Bad Religion. Ilyse Morgenstein Fuerst, PhD, is associate professor of religion and director of the Humanities Center at the University of Vermont. She was a 2022-2023 Fulbright Scholar at the University of Birmingham. Her research centers on Islam and Muslims in South Asia; imperialism; and intersections of religion, race, and belonging. She is author of Indian Muslim Minorities and the 1857 Rebellion: Religion, Rebels, and Jihad and co-editor of Words of Experience: Translating Islam with Carl W. Ernst.

Lloyd Kramer presents TRAVELING TO UNKNOWN PLACES: Nineteenth-Century Journeys toward French and American Selfhood at Flyleaf Books
Traveling to Unknown Places presents a compelling, incisive analysis of how French and American writers reshaped their personal and collective identities as they traveled in foreign countries after the social upheavals of the eighteenth-century Atlantic revolutions. Flyleaf will offer seating for up to 70 in-person guests, with priority access given to folks who purchase the book. Please indicate in the comments if you’d like 1-2 seats held for you at the event! Signing line at 5:30pm, talk begins at 6:00pm. Lloyd Kramer is Professor of History, Emeritus and former Director of Carolina Public Humanities at UNC Chapel Hill. He received his PhD in European History at Cornell University and taught at Stanford and Northwestern Universities before coming to UNCChapel Hill in 1986. His research, writing, and teaching focus on European cultural history, with particular attention to modern France and the processes of transatlantic intellectual exchanges. He has published numerous books and articles. In addition, he received the William F. Little Distinguished Service Award for service and leadership in UNC CH’s College of Arts and Sciences in 2015 and the Institute for the Arts and Humanities’ George H. Johnson Prize for Distinguished Achievement by a Fellow in 2018.

Performances begin at the stage at 4pm. The tree ceremony will take place at dusk, APPROXIMATELY 5:45pm. The tree lighting is just the start of an event-filled holiday season! Hewitt Pottery Kiln Opening
Friday, November 29 10-5pm Saturday, November 30 10-5pm Sunday, December 1 noon-5pm Saturday, December 7 10-5pm Sunday, December 8 noon-5pm Saturday, December 14 10-5pm Sunday, December 15 noon-5pm Enjoy a beautiful day in the country! Twice a year we fire over 1000+ pots in our massive wood kiln, or our gas kiln, and invite everyone to visit the pottery for a Kiln Opening! It’s a great chance to tour the pottery workshop, walk inside the massive kilns, and shop in our large barn/gallery/showroom for beautiful pottery for yourself or for the perfect gift. The shelves are full of beautiful mugs, tumblers, plates and bowls, elegant vases, pitchers, lidded jars, serving bowls, large platters and planters ~ all made by master potter, Mark Hewitt, and his current intern. All the pots are stamped with the firing number. This will be Firing ‘112’ so the pots will be stamped 112 and the stamp of the potter who made them. Most of the pots have been made by master potter, Mark Hewitt with a very small selection made by visiting potters. Mark’s selection of ‘Big Pots’ – life-sized vases and jars – are also on display.
