Let's not lose sight of the young adults that have had so much taken from them due to COVID-19. Come together to make our High School Seniors feel important. We can become their extended family. The Chatham County Historical Society has big things planned and they'll want your help. Look for balloons on the doors of downtown businesses that are open during the celebration. We'll also have a "find the Chatham Rabbit" contest; take a picture of yourself with a rabbit (hidden around town) and bring it to the Visitor's Center for vouchers. In order to make the most of this special occasion, Chatham County will host several events throughout the course of the year that people of all ages and backgrounds will be able to take part in and enjoy. To kick start the festivities, Founding Day will take place on Saturday, April 10, 2021, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. in downtown Pittsboro. The celebration, which is free and open to the public, will be a drive-thru event featuring nine stations focusing on the county's history and community complete with a birthday party theme. Participants will have the opportunity to learn, share and engage in activities at each station. Community members will be offered items including goody bags, party hats, pi=F1ata raffles and sweet treats to take home and enjoy. Individuals and families can find the stations by following the signs and balloons from Hillsboro St. to Hank St. around the back of St. Barts Volunteers Park on the gravel section of the parking lot. Chatham 250 Drive-thru Celebration!
Saturday, April 10th from 2 pm - 5 pm there will be a drive-thru event at the parking lot between Salisbury and Hanks Streets (across from Postal Fish and City Tap and behind Circle City Books). There will be several stations: Art, History, etc. Chatham 250 plans on handing out gift bags for the cars that drive through. Stay tuned for more details!

Meet Rednap Howell (re-enactment)
Historic Chatham County Courthouse 9 Hillsboro St., Pittsboro, NC, United StatesRednap Howell was one of the key leaders of the War of Regulation in North Carolina from 1765 to 1771. A musician as well as school master, Howell earned the title Poet of the War of Regulation by writing songs which spread the news of the corruption of the local officials and kept the flames of the Regulation Movement growing. Hear first-hand Rednap's recount of the War of Regulation in North Carolina at this reenactment. Public invited. Free event. UPDATE: Masks and distancing as the Governor directs.

Growth and Change Event (Series): Chatham County History of Communities of Color May 28, June 11 and June 19, 2021 Sponsored by Deep River Chapter Pittsboro, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) The public is invited to join the Chatham Community Library for a three-part virtual lecture series chronicling the history of communities of color in Chatham County. The first lecture is in honor of Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month and will occur on Friday, May 28th from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. The lecture titled “We Are Proud Americans: Asian American Pacific Islanders Honor Their Heritage” will include a live panel discussion moderated by Anna-Rhesa Versola Kallam, Managing Editor of Chatham Magazine. The second lecture titled “Chatham County – Discovering Our Heritage Through Genealogy” will focus on the genealogical and heritage resources available through the County’s public libraries and other related resources and will occur on Friday, June 11th from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The series will conclude with a much-anticipated lecture titled “From Slavery to Freedom: A History of African Americans in Chatham County” on Saturday, June 19th from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. This lecture, by Charles Johnson, Associate Professor and Director of Public History at North Carolina Central University, is also part of Juneteenth Celebrations in Chatham County.
