Clear your calendar now for Chatham County's 250th anniversary! The Chatham County Historical Society has big things planned and they'll want your help. Look for balloons on the doors of downtown businesses that are open during the celebration. We'll also have a "find the Chatham Rabbit" contest; take a picture of yourself with a rabbit (hidden around town) and bring it to the Visitor's Center for vouchers. In order to make the most of this special occasion, Chatham County will host several events throughout the course of the year that people of all ages and backgrounds will be able to take part in and enjoy. To kick start the festivities, Founding Day will take place on Saturday, April 10, 2021, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. in downtown Pittsboro. The celebration, which is free and open to the public, will be a drive-thru event featuring nine stations focusing on the county's history and community complete with a birthday party theme. Participants will have the opportunity to learn, share and engage in activities at each station. Chatham 250 Drive-thru Celebration!

Saturday, April 10th from 2 pm - 5 pm there will be a drive-thru event at the parking lot between Salisbury and Hanks Streets (across from Postal Fish and City Tap and behind Circle City Books). There will be several stations: Art, History, etc. Chatham 250 plans on handing out gift bags for the cars that drive through. Stay tuned for more details!

Meet Rednap Howell (re-enactment)

Rednap Howell was one of the key leaders of the War of Regulation in North Carolina from 1765 to 1771. A musician as well as school master, Howell earned the title Poet of the War of Regulation by writing songs which spread the news of the corruption of the local officials and kept the flames of the Regulation Movement growing. Hear first-hand Rednap's recount of the War of Regulation in North Carolina at this reenactment. Public invited. Free event. UPDATE: Masks and distancing as the Governor directs.
