Kurt Gray is a Professor in Psychology and Neuroscience at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he directs the Deepest Beliefs Lab and the Center for the Science of Moral Understanding. He received a PhD in Social Psychology from Harvard University and is the recipient of numerous early-career and best paper awards. His findings have been featured in the New York Times, The Economist, Scientific American, Wired, and NPR’s Hidden Brain. Molly Worthen teaches history at UNC, with a focus on North American religion and politics. Her last book, Apostles of Reason, was about the intellectual backstory of the rise of the Christian Right. She is also a freelance journalist and writes about religion, politics, and higher education for the New York Times and other publications.
