For the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, unWINEd is commemorating the Rebirth of New Orleans with events on August 29-30. Below is information about August 29, with a note from the owner. For the August 30 event, click here. The shop is open 1-9 p.m. on Saturdays. Bulltown Strutters (Durham) New Orleans-Style Parade Band 8:00 to 10:30 p.m. The Durham-based Bulltown Strutters bring the party and shift it into high gear with their raucous mix of old-school New Orleans classics and new-school New Orleans funk, powered by a massive horn section. Join us for a Second Line!!! Parlez-Vous Crepe (Pittsboro) Owners Jody and Tom Argote were born and raised New Orleanians Delicious, made-to-order savory and sweet crêpes. They specialize in creating seasonal fillings using local, sustainable ingredients, and are always developing new ones. Perhaps they will develop a “Rebirth” crepe! A Note From The Owner Almost 10 years ago, Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast weakening the levees in New Orleans. We all know the history and stories that followed. I am a New Orleans native and have lived in Chatham County, NC for 25 years. All of my family lived in New Orleans when Katrina hit. They evacuated, as always, when a bad storm heads that direction. When they knew there was no home to go to they turned to Ray and I for safe shelter. This community opened their arms to 12 family members and 6 pets. The N&O wrote an article about my family on Monday, September 5, 2005 in the City & State section. Since that time all have returned and some have passed on. They did not and will never give up on the city of New Orleans. Lives have changed. Most are living in different homes. The reality of the devastation is still vivid […]
